Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out at info@mimischukadiner.com if you don't see your question answered below!

Chūka (short for chūka ryōri) refers to the specific cuisine created by Chinese chefs that adapts traditional Chinese dishes to the Japanese palate and cooking methods. It is this distinct adaptation of food that can be found throughout Japan, often at small mom-and-pop-owned, local joints, that serves as the foundational influence for Mimi's. Expect to see chūka options that may share names and similarities with traditional Chinese & Japanese dishes, but with culinary twists that put them into their own distinct category. We're also inspired by classic mid-century American diners, and integrate both the welcoming atmosphere and some diner menu staples into our offerings.

Our food is designed to be comforting, shareable, and affordable. We're also excited to offer a full beverage program, including cocktails, wine, beer, and sake. Check out our menus for all the details!

We are located at 14 Tyler Street, Somerville, MA, inside of Aeronaut Brewing Company. We are about 1/2 from Union Square and 1 mile from both Porter and Harvard Square T stations. There is limited street parking available on Tyler Street and Properzi Way, and a small lot on the corner of Tyler St and Dane St. We'd recommend taking public transportation whenever possible. We are just steps away from nearby 83, 87, and 109 bus stops. When you arrive, please head straight through the front doors of Aeronaut, then take two left turns and head to the very back of the Foods Hub. You'll find us in the very back of the room, with a red and white banner above our entrance.

Reservations are now available for parties of 6 or less through Resy. Make your reservation here.

For parties larger than 6, please send us an email at events@mimischukadiner.com so we can ensure our servers and kitchen staff are prepared for your visit.

We do our best to provide options for a wide range of dietary restrictions including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan diners . Our offer several dishes for these specified diets, which are clearly marked on both our dine-in and takeout menus. See our menus here. Our servers and kitchen are all trained on proper allergen awareness/handling to ensure all potential  allergens are known and to avoid any cross-contamination that might occur.

We will take private events requests on a case by case basis. We kindly request that any private event inquiries are submitted at least 30 days in advance. Please reach out to us via email to events@mimischukadiner.com with your event details to begin the booking process.

We offer catering for both offsite events and for onsite events held within the Aeronaut Brewing Company taproom/event space. We'll work with you to determine a menu that best suits the purposes of your event. We kindly request at least 24 hours notice for group sizes up to 30 people, and 48 hours notice for group sizes of 30+. Please reach out to us at events@mimischukadiner.com with details of your catering needs to begin the booking process.

About Us

Our Story

Mimi’s Chūka Diner is a meaningful blend of Ted and Jon’s culinary and cultural heritages borne out of late nights together sipping cheap beers and craving an option for after-hours noodles and dumplings.

Chūka (short for chūka ryōri) refers to the Japanese-style of Chinese cuisine and/or restaurants in Japan that serve it. Chūka represents the unique ability of Chinese cooks and chefs around the world to adapt their cuisine to suit the tastes and cooking styles of any population, creating a new array of dishes that are distinctly their own. Chūka is innovation, driven by the local culture, while honoring and serving its traditional origins.

Our “Diner” influences serve as an homage to the luncheonettes and diners that Jon’s grandpa owned and operated in Manhattan, beloved by locals for its friendly, homelike atmosphere. We strive to make Mimi’s Chūka Diner a small, friendly neighborhood joint serving up an extensive menu of comforting yet affordable dishes. Our goal is to be a meaningful landmark within our community for folks from all walks of life to come together to enjoy crave-worthy food without breaking the bank.
